Outside of cartoons, the boys enjoy watching shows involving food. Of particular delight to them is Cake Boss. They could describe in perfect detail many of Buddy's masterful cakes. It's no surprise though since they continually discuss their wish to become bakers at their very own Tuba Partners Bakery.
My baker boys have expressed a huge interest in visiting Hoboken , New Jersery in order to see Buddy, so when I
found out he was coming to Rockford
it was a no brainer. The start time being past their bedtime was very less than
ideal but just this once I had to look past it.
I told the boys I was taking them out on a date, which made
them grin from ear to ear already. On the drive to Rockford I gave distant, ambiguous clues to
keep it exciting. Eventually, though, I gave them a piece of trivia that would sell it
instantly: he's from Hoboken .
And I mean instantly, our little Corolla shook with energy. Those boys although
buckled down in boosters were dancing jigs. They were going to see Buddy!
The beautiful theatre with its lights aglow, winding
staircases, and intricately carved details wowed the boys. Our seats albeit in
the upper balcony were perfection - center section, row one. Frankly, seats
weren't needed because at most they used the edge of them. Mostly, they were
leaned up against the rail cheering, clapping, reveling in the moments. As
much as I, too, enjoyed watching Buddy teach us how to best roll fondant or pipe perfect
roses, the best part was watching my little buddies soak in the night. Their awe
was tangible; their joy supreme.
We left the theatre hand in hand, smiling and already reminiscing
on a night that can't possibly be forgotten. But just in case it can for them, they
will have this to read. I suppose they are still little guys. After all, each managed
to lose one glove throughout the evening. Each fell asleep in his booster on the ride home. And neither
was embarrassed to kiss me in front of the theatre.
